Each May, since 1881, a festival known as Maifest is celebrated in Brenham, It is a celebration of the towns German Heritage and the youth in the community. Each year, hundreds of volunteers work countless hours to produce a Junior and Senior parade and coronation along with a fun filled festival which includes a Kinder Village, authentic German tastes and sounds, cooking contests as well as quality artisans from around the state.
From the traditional festival fares to authentic German cuisine, the Maifestival has them all. You can always enjoy the taste of Brenham with the Country Flavors “all you can eat” Blue Bell Ice Cream (Best Ice Cream in Texas) which is hand dipped by the Brenham Noon Lions Club! You can even try all the variations of German brews and wine while you enjoy live German music on the Maifestival grounds.
The Brenham Volunteer Fire Department, sponsors of the first Maifest, purchased the festival site, now called Fireman’s Park in 1884. The park became the city property in 1917 and was made available for the enjoyment of all Brenham citizens.
